Let Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra take you to a world of speakeasies and bathtub gin; flappers and tin lizzies; jazz—and a man named George Gershwin. The Orchestra brings its own unique swagger to the rarely-performed original Paul Whiteman Orchestra version of Rhapsody in Blue and a world-premiere reconstruction of Whiteman's tight and jazzy arrangement of An American in Paris. Hear this music as Gershwin first heard it in the 1920s! Then go right to the heart of the Great American Songbook with classics like The Man I Love, They Can't Take That Away From Me, and Let's Call the Whole Thing Off. Pianist Michael Chertock and vocalists Justin Hopkins and Erica Spyres join the orchestra. This special evening brings you Gershwin as you've never heard it before...the music of America's most original composer played by America's Orchestra!
