One-time $50 annual registration fee per household plus $90 per child, per 12-week session

Thank you for supporting the programming at South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center! We are so pleased and proud to offer Dance at SMDCAC to the families of our community as a means of fostering a lifelong love of dance and the arts to the youth in our community. The reduced pricing of these classes are intended to assist families who are experiencing financial limitations (see requirements below). The following information will help you and your child be prepared for class.

Registration | IN PERSON ONLY
Registration will take place on Saturday, January 14 from 12:00pm-4:00pm. Full payment is due at the time of registration.


Class Schedule*
Intro to Dance: Beginning Ballet + Hip Hop (ages 5-7)
Tuesdays and Thursdays / 4:30-5:20pm
 
Beginning Ballet (ages 8-11)
Wednesdays / 4:15-5:05pm and Saturday / 12:30-1:20pm
 
Intermediate Jazz (ages 10-14)
Wednesday / 5:15-6:30pm and Saturday / 1:30-2:45pm
 
*SMDCAC's class schedule follows the M-DCPS calendar. There will be no classes on Teacher Planning Days or established holidays. 


Attendance
Regular attendance is necessary in order for the student to receive the full benefit of their dance classes. No tuition adjustments will be made due to absences of any kind. Due to the structure and nature of this program, make up lessons are not be available.

Students should arrive in proper dance attire and be ready for class at least 10 minutes prior to their scheduled class time. Students who arrive to class after the warm up period may be required to observe class that day.

Each class will be dismissed 5 minutes prior to the end of each class to enable a smooth changeover between classes. Students should not arrive or be left waiting more than 10 minutes before or after their class.

Cost
One-time $50 annual registration fee per household plus $90 per child, per 12-week session.
 

NOTE: Because these classes are at a reduced cost, proof of approved free/reduced lunch application from your child’s school in the form of a copy of the official letter of approval for the lunch program is required at the time of registration. The letter must be printed on official school or school district letterhead/stationary.

All fees are non-refundable.


Late Pick-Up Fee
A late fee of $10 per 15 minutes per family will be charged for children not picked up on time. Consistent late pick up may result in the child being withdrawn from the program.


Dress Code - Students will be responsible for obtaining proper dancewear.
Girls Beginning and Intermediate Ballet:

  • Black leotard – capped sleeves or tank style

  • Pink tights

  • Ballet slippers- no split soles

  • Hair: Must be in a bun. No hair ornaments of any kind.


Boys Beginning and Intermediate Ballet:

  • White t-shirt or leotard

  • Black sweat pants

  • White socks and ballet slippers

  • Hair: Hair must be well groomed and off the face


Girls Jazz/Contemporary Dance

  • Girls may wear leotards, tights, unitards, form fitting jazz pants,  or trunks (briefs). T-shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants may only be worn during the class warm-up.

  • Black jazz shoes must be worn. Slip-on jazz shoes without laces are preferred.


Boys Jazz/Contemporary Dance

  • Solid colored shirts and pants or shorts. Denim is not allowed.

  • Black jazz shoes must be worn. Slip-on jazz shoes without laces are preferred.


Classroom Behavior

  • South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center and their teaching staff will not tolerate disrespectful behavior, language or bullying of any kind. Students must be respectful to their instructors and fellow students at all times. Each instructor reserves the right to dismiss a student from class for violating this rule.

  • No gum or eating is allowed in any of the classrooms.

  • No outdoor footwear is allowed in the classroom.

  • Students may not leave the classroom unless permission is granted from their teacher.

  • Parents are not allowed in the classroom during their child’s scheduled class.
