“The best and brightest creative talent to emerge in New York City in the age of Obama.” – Out Magazine.
Abraham.In.Motion is an ensemble of dancers, under the direction Kyle Abraham, one of one of the nation’s most talented young choreographers. Abraham’s work is deeply rooted in personal experience. Through the raw emotion of dance, the audience is beckoned to open themselves up to investigate or confront their own feelings. Abraham intertwines his sensual and provocative movement vocabulary with his strong understanding of music, creating an avenue for personal investigation by taking the bases of human behavior and emotion and toying with them on stage, emoting fantasy worlds and twisted story lines.
On this program is The Radio Show, an abstract narrative about the loss of communication. Abraham investigates the effects of the abrupt discontinuation of a radio station on a community and the lingering effects of Alzheimer's and aphasia on a family. Abraham mixes score with recordings of classical soul and hip-hop with contemporary classical composition by Ryoji Ikeda and Alva Noto.
Funding for this project is provided in part by South Arts.
